Elon Musk and national Republican groups are pouring millions of dollars into Pennsylvania congressional races, adding a major new wave of outside spending as the GOP fights to maintain control of the House.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Wednesday that the Congressional Leadership Fund has redirected nearly $3.6 million in advertising to support Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick in Bucks County. Musk’s America PAC has also spent at least $460,000 in each of three other competitive Pennsylvania districts.
Those races involve Republican Reps. Rob Bresnahan, Ryan Mackenzie and Scott Perry.
The spending comes as Pennsylvania’s congressional contests attract increasing attention from both parties. Democratic groups have already committed millions to challenge Republican incumbents, particularly in districts where control of the House could hinge on a handful of seats.
Fitzpatrick’s race against Democrat Bob Harvie illustrates the scale of the fight. As of Tuesday, planned advertising spending in the district stood at approximately $9.4 million for Fitzpatrick and more than $9.5 million for Harvie, according to AdImpact figures.
The Republican spending surge also reflects a shift in strategy. The Congressional Leadership Fund had not previously scheduled advertising in Fitzpatrick’s race before redirecting resources from other districts, including New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District.
Musk’s political operation has taken a different approach from its highly visible 2024 effort, when he spent heavily on national Republican causes and voter-turnout initiatives. This cycle, America PAC has focused more directly on advertising supporting selected congressional candidates.
The group’s ads have sought to portray Democratic challengers as aligned with the party’s progressive wing, using imagery featuring figures such as Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Republicans argue their incumbents have records on taxes, public safety and constituent services to defend. Democrats contend the influx of outside money demonstrates how hard the GOP is working to protect vulnerable seats.
The financial battle is likely to intensify as Election Day approaches. The key question is whether the advertising blitz will persuade voters, or simply make Pennsylvania’s most competitive districts among the most expensive races in the country.
