Republicans Cut Pennsylvania's Democratic Lead in Half

Share

Pennsylvania's registration math just swung hard. Following routine list-maintenance updates required under federal law, the state's Department of State shifted nearly 55,000 Democrats into "inactive" status. Voters who haven't cast a ballot in five years and didn't respond to mailed notices were removed, a process performed statewide 90 days ahead of federal elections.

The effect on the voter gap was immediate.

Democrats: -54,178
Net GOP gain: +30,195

A Democratic active-voter lead of 56,006 the week before got sliced to 25,811. The lead was more than cut in half in seven days.

For a party that's leaned on registration cushion in a state decided by roughly a point in the last two presidential races, that's a number worth watching. Republicans have spent years closing what was once a 900,000-plus voter gap, and this week's shift is the sharpest single move yet.

This follows the Trump administration pointing to Pennsylvania as one of four states, alongside California, New Jersey, and Nevada, where it identified illegal immigrants registered to vote, part of a combined national figure north of 250,000. The Department of Homeland Security put Pennsylvania's share at roughly 14,600 flagged registrations.
