The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed 835 cases across 39 counties, with the latest jump accounting for 140 new infections over just the past ten days alone. State officials had already urged families to move up routine vaccinations weeks ago as the outbreak accelerated.
The surge has coincided with a sharp rise in vaccine demand, with providers reporting double the usual number of measles shots administered in August and nearly 40,000 doses given in the first three weeks of September, a sign many families are only now responding to a crisis that has been building for months.
Four measles-related deaths have been confirmed statewide and 164 total hospitalizations have resulted from the outbreak so far.
